Famous tech boss, Elon Musk, has made moves to expand his franchise. The Twitter owner is reportedly planning to start an Artificial Intelligence company. This AI company is set to compete with OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.
Although Musk is familiar with the tech world, he is now set to compete with major tech giants such as Microsoft and Google and startups like OpenAI. The company’s name is X.AI and it was incorporated on 9 March 2023. The name of the AI company comes as no surprise as it has been Musk’s longtime plan to make an “everything app” branded “X.”
According to The Financial Times, the Tesla owner is bringing both the brains and the money to ensure Project X.AI flies. Musk is reportedly bringing together a team of engineers and AI researchers to the table. He is also in talks with several investors for the sake of the project.

Musk’s X.AI expects to compete with OpenAI. It is, however, worth noting that Musk is one of the co-founders of OpenAI, which was created in 2015. However, he left the board after only three years because of “clashes with the management.”
Musk has been utterly vocal over his disagreement with OpenAI’s choice to pursue profit. He also condemned their attempt at building AI that he considered too “woke.” In retrospect, this new project may be Musk’s attempt at showing OpenAI how it’s done. But it also raises clouds of uncertainty. Only a few weeks ago, Musk reportedly co-signed a letter demanding a six-month AI research pause. This makes one wonder why the Twitter CEO is himself, starting an AI company.
ChatGPT has covered a lot of grounds since it was first launched. Although currently facing pushbacks, the AI tool has seen many uses over the last few months. It is now left to see how X.AI plans to compete with this.
Future Of X.AI
Musk has reportedly bought about 10,000 Graphic Processing Units (GPUs) for his AI startup. He is also said to have hired engineers from leading AI labs, including DeepMind.
It is reported that Musk is looking to create an AI that is “truth seeking”. Never one to hold back on his opinions, the Twitter CEO had earlier shared thoughts of ChatGPT being politically biased.
Only a little is presently known about Mr. Musk’s X.AI and the project’s status. It is rumoured that the founding of the AI company is part of Musk’s recent moves in the field of Al. Also, Musk has talked to several investors in his companies, SpaceX and Tesla, about backing his new AI startup.
Will X.AI Be A Worthy Open AI Competitor?

For someone that has been openly critical of the progress of AI, Musk is putting a lot into his AI company. X.AI is looking forward to competing with ChatGPt, which has proven to be a useful AI tool over the months.
OpenAI has been in the game for a while and is flourishing, judging by Microsoft’s recent renewed multibillion-dollar investment. The latest version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT was released some weeks back. It seems like there is no stopping to the progress of the unique AI. X.AI will have to work hard to beat ChatGPT in its game.
